Let’s go over now how to deal with rank tracking. Basically that is seeing how your website ranks for all your target keywords. Okay, so let’s go over here to Networks, Mortgage Loans and let’s select the website Piwik Forum and in Settings, go to Keywords, and let’s add some keywords. So I’m just going to add some random ones that I think of. Piwik forums, piwik, piwik tracking, piwik analytics, okay, it’s good for now, and Location, this is optional. This is for if you want to geo-target your rank tracking.
So let’s say if you did SEO services for a local business in your town, let’s say it was a plumbing business like Ace Plumbing or something. So you would have probably added a client in SEHabitat called Ace Plumbing and then you would have added their website in their called maybe Aceplumbing.com and any other websites that they have that you’re working on. And let’s say you’re working with aceplumbing.com in SEHabitat and you go to add new keywords like we just did, you might put plumbing, plumbing services, plumbers and stuff like that, toilet plumber or sink plumber, you know, just whatever keywords, and for that business, you only care about what their rankings are for people who are searching for that stuff from your city. Let’s use San Jose, California as an example.
Just for quick example, let’s say in this plumbing example, we enter those keywords and our client is in San Jose, California, so we just put San Jose, California in the location and then SEHabitat will make sure that it’s only checking for the rankings in San Jose because as you know, Google has local results, so we only care if their plumbing website ranks well for people searching from San Jose, so that’s optional. And this little box track ranking only among local results, that means that it will track the rankings only among via like Google places kind of listings like you know the ones that have extra information like address and stuff like that. So if you’re not showing up in there, you know that you’re not in those special listings, so that can be kind of useful.
Anyway, in this example we are looking for you know, we add our URL set to piwikforums.com or demo.piwik.com or something, so let’s go ahead and enter these as our keywords, okay. And if you have any questions about the local stuff and all that, please let me know. It can be confusing at first, I hope it’s not too confusing. So I’ll click Add here.
Alright, and now this is an important message, it says You’ve successfully added your search keywords. Rankings for your website will be available in around 10 minutes. Sometimes it can take a little bit longer because it’s got to go through and check all those and there are a lot of keywords to do every day for all the clients and we’re continuously improving that system so it speeds up but generally, it will take around 10 minutes, okay.
So here’s your Search Keywords page and you can check back there in about 10 minutes to see the last ranking but really let’s go back to the — well, let me check real quick if I even — I shouldn’t have put those keywords because I know that the URL I used in this example site was piwik.org, let me just make sure that actually ranks for stuff. So piwikdemo, yeah, so I’m on my other computer, it looks like it doesn’t actually, yeah, it does, it’s number one, okay, alright, perfect.
So let me refresh this and see if they came in yet, no, it didn’t, okay, that’s fine. Basically go to Overview and you can see your keywords in here now. This is like the simple keyword reporting for the overview just so you can see all the traffic, traffic from all the keywords and even including keywords you don’t enter here or you can narrow down to certain keywords but it’s processing the initial ranking data, so we got to wait a little bit longer, okay?
I’m going to pause this and then come back once rankings come in, okay?
Okay, I’m back and I actually went ahead and made another site because my previous site that I had for this example, it’s kind of a bad example because the URL that I put in for this site which is demo.piwik.org is actually kind of hard to find and so it doesn’t really rank very much stuff. It’s kind of like a sort of hidden thing on their site and Google index is set as piwik.org/demo, so anyway that was a bad example. So I just went ahead and added this new site DMV.org because I know it will rank for stuff, so let’s go down here. Obviously there’s no visitor stuff because I don’t have an analytics account for DMV.org but you can see I added some keywords in here and actually in this case, the rankings are the same for both engines, so it looks like one dot or really, there’s a blue one behind it.
So let’s go ahead and check the rank tracking. So over here we got the keywords, their ranking and you can start by that and the amount of change. So if this was with number 1, yes, number today but what if it was number 5 yesterday, then this would show a green up arrow and a 5, okay. So you can kind of get a feel for what this looks like and this little icon, you can expand it and it shows you a chart. But really, I’m not really satisfied with showing you this because this is all brand new and there is no history so you don’t get to see the cool charts or anything, so I’m going to pause it again and I’m going to go in to my personal account. So I’m going to have to blur some stuff but I want to show you what it looks like when it’s filled with data, okay. So I’ll pause it and my new account or my own account and I’ll see you in a second.
Alright, I’m back and I’m in my personal account so there’s got to be a lot of blurring going on but you will still be able to get the point of what I’m trying to show you. So I’m at the dashboard, I’m going to go over to Reports, Rank Tracking, and this is going to show rank tracking reports for my whole accounts, okay. So you can see there’s a sortable table and you can select the period, 3 days, 6 months or a year or you can also select the network but period, but if you want to add more flexible period, just know that we’re working on that. it’s going to be implemented soon.
So this table is sortable alphabetically or by the amount of change since the last rank check and the top ranking and the number of keywords that you’ve added for that site. So what I usually forget is Net Change. So I see this site, net change is 11 total from last check which will be yesterday. So let’s sort by change in this table that comes up. Because change was 17, so it’s 35 now, it’s ranked 35 and it went up 17 from the day before and yeah. So let’s open a chart real quick. Yeah, see, that’s what I want you to see. And you can open these charts for any of your keywords and let’s see.
Alright, so men, there’s probably a bunch of blurry in this but I hope you got something out of it and that comes through with the rank tracking reports and everything. So I’ll see you in the next video and let me know if you have any questions.
