Choose Your Monetization

Now that you’ve created a website, it’s time to make money from it! There are many ways for you to generate income from your website. Here are some typical sources of revenue:

Selling advertising space

One of the most popular ways to earn money from a website is by placing ads on it. A lot of sites (especially the big authority sites) sell banner advertising space for a lot of money. It’s a great way to use your site’s traffic to generate income. You can make money in various ways, like Pay Per Click, Pay Per 1000 Views, or Pay Per Time Frame, among others.

You can do this directly with an advertiser or you can join a banner ad network (i.e. BuySellAds), which will recruit advertisers, track your earnings, and control banner ad placement on your website. In return, the ad network will take a percentage of the advertising money generated by your ad space.

If you want complete control over the banner ads on your website, you can also recruit advertisers yourself. There are a lot of sites that want to sell ad space than there are advertisers, so you should have a fairly impressive website if you want to take this route. Advertisers look for high traffic and specialized content in a website because these are the things that translate to impressions and high click-through rates (CTR). Give advertisers a good reason to invest on your website.

Reviewing products and services

This is my personal favorite, and is perhaps the most profitable way to generate revenue from a website.

Basically, you review products or services on your blog, which makes great content. And if the product or services you’re reviewing has an affiliate program, you can make lots of money since the companies you’re affiliated with will pay you a certain commission for each sale or lead that you send them from your site. You can review anything from gadgets, software, food, hotels, or anything you could think of.

Guest posting

Some people earn extra income by allowing guest authors to post content to their blog for a fee. Some people are willing to do this, especially if you own an authority blog and people will want that backlink from you.

Starting your own Pay Per Click program

There are a lot of reasons to run your own Pay Per Click program. The beauty of it is that you’re paying only for targeted click-throughs, not impressions or the number of subscribers. What’s more, you get to decide how much each click costs! This generates hits for a long time and everybody gets rewarded since you get targeted traffic for your advertising money, while your affiliates get cash. So don’t be afraid to try it out, even if all you have are affiliate links on your site. The better you do, the bigger the reward.

Display Google Adsense ads

Google Adsense provides revenue-sharing opportunities for websites that place ads for products and services relevant to their niche or industry, and are targeted to the people who frequently visit their pages. In return, the site owner will get paid a certain amount when a particular ad is displayed on their page or clicked on.

This should probably be your last resort, but it does work. I know some people who make most of their money from Google Adsense.

Which one works for you best?
