In this tutorial, you’re going to learn how to buy a domain name.
If you have a website, you should definitely consider registering your own domain name. You can use it to refer to your website. To register a domain name, you don’t have to be a company or organization. Anyone can do it.
First of all, let I’m going to show you some creative ways to find your domain name. That is, if you don’t already know what you want. Next, I’m going to show you how to register the domain name.
So let’s get started!
Domain Suggestions
On DomainTools.com, there’s a specific tool called ‘Domain Suggestions’. It helps you find a nice domain name to match your product, service, or website concept that’s not already taken.
Simply type in a bunch of keywords and this tool will try to figure out whether or not the domain name that you want is already taken. Domain Suggestions will also give you some suggestions on other domain names that are related to those specific keywords.
For example, you’re looking for a domain that’s related to “Internet Video Tutorials”. Simply click on the ‘Lookup’ button and a whole slew of suggestion results will appear.
Domain Suggestions also generates synonyms that are somehow related to the keywords you’ve typed in (in this case, it’s “Internet Video Tutorials”).
Registering Your Domain Name
In this example, I’ll choose the domain name InternetVideoTutorialsWorld.com.
There are different domain registrars out there, including GoDaddy.com and NameCheap.com, among many others. In this case, we’re going to use NameCheap.com (because their service goes above and beyond most other domain registrars).
From there, you need to go to Domains >> Registration, then type in your specific domain name. Next, click on the ‘Search’ button.
NameCheap will then display the results, showing you which domains are available.
If your chosen domain name is available, you can sign up for an account. If you already have an account with NameCheap, go ahead and log in. You can simply click on the shopping cart button found on the right side of your chosen domain name so you can purchase it.
You should probably know that NameCheap provides a coupon. Just do a Google search and type in ‘NameCheap’, along with a specific day, month, or year (i.e. “NameCheap February 2015 coupons”). Do a search for a coupon and you’ll find some promo codes and discounts.
Once you find a coupon, you need to sign in to your NameCheap account and apply in your coupon code. That should help you save some money.
Next, click on the ‘Checkout’ button and go through the process of purchasing your domain name.
This doesn’t mean you purchase the domain name forever, but you can register it on a yearly basis (1 to 10 years), depending on how long you’re going to use the domain. That’s it!
